Techstravaganza is a night we have yearly at my school during which students and teachers show off technology work they have done. This night is usually done in conjunction with a PTA/Open House evening. After the PTA meeting, everyone is invited to tour the building. Teachers are required to display tech projects on the walls outside their doors. Students and parents are encouraged to go into the classroom and pull up work that has been completed on the computer. All work done in the computer lab is saved to a shared drive, so every student has several projects to show off, even if the regular classroom teacher has not had much time to do such work in the classroom. Students are taught how to access this work from any computer in the school. I have a handful of student assistants sign up to be at the Techstravaganza to help folks who have trouble finding documents on the shared drive. Before the Techstravaganza, I go around the entire school and take pictures of the work displayed in the hallways. Teachers also walk around and are inspired by the ideas that they see. Many are adaptable from one grade level to another. This has been a good way to educate our parents and community about the possibilities that exist when technology is used by students.
