She watched as her five older brothers entered Starfleet, and she listened to their stories of places they'd been and experiences they'd had.  She became completely enraptured with the thought of that lifestyle, and before she was thirteen years old she had made up her mind to enter Starfleet as soon as she could. 

With that goal in mind, she concentrated on schoolwork, and excelled in every class.  She was also a leader in extracurricular activities and was elected to several positions in clubs. 

As a result of her determination and hard work, she graduated from school a year early, and enlisted in Starfleet when she was just 17.  Her mother didn't approve of Ithanna's decision, but nothing could deter her.

In Starfleet, she again excelled at everything she tried.  She was an exemplary student in the classroom, and again was involved in many extra activities, and was asked out on many dates. 

It was at this time that she attracted the attention of a would-be suitor named Jarqez.  The fellow Starfleet student became obsessed with Ithanna, though she didn't know it.  She was polite to him, as she was to everyone, but he mistook her attention for more than it was.   He plotted for months to take Ithanna and make her his.  While she was walking across the grounds one night, he saw his chance.  He kidnapped her and held her in a storage building a short distance from the Academy.  He sexually assaulted her, and he kept her drugged so that she couldn't escape.

Her younger brother, who was also attending the Academy by now, was contacted by her teachers after she missed several days of classes.  He was able to piece together what happened, and he found her.   It took several months of therapy for her to accept what had happened to her, though she still has problems stemming from the incident.  Because of some of the physical harm Jarqez inflicted on her, she can never have children of her own.  She grieves for that every day, and tries to find ways to compensate for it.

As a result of the experience, she became stronger.  She still enjoys male companionship and is very open and active sexually, but she keeps things strictly on a friend/flirt level, and refuses to let herself become serious about any man.  She began training physically and taking self-defense courses so that she could defend herself if she needed to.

Ithanna still requires regular psychological treatment to deal with the trauma of what happened to her, as well as the resulting physical injury.  She holds a lot of anger over the situation, and enjoys using physical means of releasing the anger. 

Ithanna finished her Starfleet courses and graduated third in her class.  Since then, she's thrown herself fully into her job, and loves every moment of it.  She eagerly tackles any project given to her, and has worked her way up through the ranks.  She occasionally has to be reprimanded for speaking out too strongly, but other crew members value her opinion and are tolerant of the direct way in which she delivers her thoughts.  Though she may question orders in private and try to suggest other courses of action, she does not question or undermine her superiors in front of the crew, and she has proven more than once that they can rely on her to accept orders given during crisis situations.  She has received commendations on more than one occasion.
