Change Image Size
Picture 13- First I cropped and auto color corrected. The original scanned picture was very damaged with a lot of scratches that I wanted to hide. First I used the despeckle filter, and then the dust & scratches filter. This helped a little bit. Then I sharpened once to bring back a bit of the resolution on Granddad's face. Then I used find edges filter because I hadn't tried it before. I actually like the way it turned out, for something different. It also makes it easier for me to find the scratches so that I can continue repairing them in the original one. Saved for web. (Picture of D.W. Clayton as a teenager, before 1918.) I would eventually like to continue with the original picture and learn how to repair more of the scratches so that it's a seamless picture.

Cropping and Saving for Web
Picture 14 - I took a picture I scanned from a photo album. Even after cropping and correcting color, there was a huge shadow around Granddad's picture, so I used the lighting effect to minimize the shadow and to lighten his face. I focused it on his collar so it didn't lighten his face too much, and then it made the shadow around him appear like it was intentional. Nice way to draw attention to his face itself and hide the shadows that couldn't be corrected. (Picture of D.W. Clayton taken late 1970s.)

Creating a Sidebar
I created a sidebar for this set of web pages. Instead of using a solid color, I filled the sidebar with a gradient effect (I love gradients). You can see it in use on this page.

Creating a Heading Banner
I created a heading banner for this set of web pages by starting with a plain white box. I typed my text into it and played with effects, finally choosing one. I then created a new layer for the background and experimented with fill effects until I found one I liked. I also added a border to this one since it will be a header on a white web page background. I saved it as a gif and am using it on this page as well as the others for this assignment.

I have also used a spacing gif (a small transparent box) in the left border of my page (the table itself is invisible) to keep the text from going into the side border.
