Cloning in Photographs

Picture 1 - The original photo was a scanned photo of my grandfather and my cousin, Cindy. I wanted to see how it would look with just Granddad in it, so I used the clone tool to erase my cousin's picture and put parts of the couch and wall in her place. It isn't a perfect photo and I need to work more with the cloning to get the textures and shadows to match up better, but it's still a nice picture of Granddad. I liked the cloning, but it takes some time and a very controlled hand on the computer mouse. (Photograph of D.W. Clayton, mid 1950s.)

Using Filters

Picture 10 - This was an interesting photo of a tree limb draped in Spanish moss. I cropped and resized picture, and then played with various filters to see what they did, finally choosing the Cutout filter. I then played with color variations to change it to more green, with the idea to use it as a background on a web page. Turned out nice! Saved for web. Changing Brightness/Contrast/Hue

Picture 11- This was originally just a proof picture that I got from our historical society, very tiny in size when scanned, and became blurry when enlarged. I used the sharpen filter to clear it up so that Granddad's face is more visible and it's a better picture. Saved for web. (Picture of Son Clayton sitting on his front porch, early 1980s).

Adding Text to a Picture

Picture 12 - This was a very old family photo, and had strange coloring to begin with. I cropped and rotated picture, auto color corrected. The original scanned picture had a blue tint to it that I chose to focus on rather than to try to eliminate. I added a lens flare filter and moved it around so that it highlighted the faces that were too shadowed. I also adjusted to a 35mm flare because it was more blue/gray in color to match the blue hues of the photo. Turned out to look good! (Clayton family late 1800s -Douglas, D.W.
