William Batchelot Denmark, son of William was born about 1735 in present Belhaven in Beauford Co. then Hyde Precinct of Old Bath Co. North Carolina.

He was living in Pitt Co. NC., when his father William died in 1766. While living in Pitt Co. William practicing a twentieth century lifestyle. He had a wife and a common law spouse, both of whom were bearing him children. They were sisters, Mary and Anna Moye

When the 1766 deed was executed, tranferring land that he had inherited from his father, it was in his name and that of his wife, Mary. Yet by this time he had fathered two children by Anna, his wife's sister and his common law spouse.

William moved to Craven Co. about 1774 and settled near old Fort Barnwell. When he sold land that year Anna was still with him and witnessed the land transaction. She signed her name as Anna Moye

About ten years later 1784 something happened to the three individuals and William and Anna left Mary and parted ways. William sold out in December 1784 and went to Georgia with Anna and her children. Mary is found in Duplin Co. two years later enumberated with four of her children. Mary died before 1790

William settled on the East side of the Ogeechee River in Effingham Co. and was later granted 500 acres of land. A family problem arose on the East side and caused the Denmarks to settled on the West side of the Ogeechee in Bulloch Co. The Georgia Gazette states that a man named Denmark may have shot and killed a young man named Levi Dykes.

By this time it appears that Mary was deceased and William decided to formalize a ecclesiastical or civil cermony for in January 1795, he made deed of gift to his "beloved wife" Anna and her children.

The earliest known Denmark ancestor is William Denmark, who was born about 1706. He was a blacksmith in Woodstock, located in Hyde County, North Carolina when his son, William Batchelor Denmark was born. He died about 1751.

William Batchelor Denmark served during the American Revolution.

He apparently sired two groups of children, either legally or by common law marriage. His first wife- Mary Moye was married about 1745. After Mary's death in 1793 William declared Anna, Mary's sister, his wife in 1794. Our line descends from Mary Moye, William's first wife.

He immigrated to the American Colonies about 1750 with his parents, into Pince Fredrick's Parish (location now in Marion County, SC), English Province of South Carolina. His will was signed on 17 May 1816, so he probably died soon after at his home, the William Wise Plantation, on Old Mill Road, in Bulloch County, Georgia. He married Sarah Margaret Denmark about 1778 in Orangeburgh District, English Province of South Carolina (part became Barnwell County, South Carolina). She was born about 1762 in Hyde or Craven County, English Province of Noth Carolina (part became Pitt County NC), an ddied after 1821 in Bulloch County, Georgia. Notes for William B. Denmark:

William B. Denmark Sr., son of Francis is the 3rd generation of Denmarks in Virginia. He was born 1708 in VA., and died 1766 in North Carolina.

William Denmark moved from Virginia to Hyde County, North Carolina. It appears that William married in North Carolina to Mourning (unknown). Only two children are known born to William and Mourning.

William was a blacksmith by trade and by 1751 he was old and very much afflicted with illness he was exempted from public duties. He died in 1766 and the lands in Hyde Co. fell to his son, William then living in Pitt Co., near his sister and family.

Children of William and Morning are:

1. Abigail Denmark, born 1731 Hyde County, North Carolina, married William Mill Travis 11.

2. William B. Denmark

William Denmark was an educated man as he could write his own name, even abbreviated "William" for "Wm". He became a town's blacksmith. When his son William Batchelor was born he was the blacksmith in the town of Woodstock, located in Hyde County, North Carolina. He died in 1751.

Child of William Denmark and Mourning Moye is:

Notes for John Wise:

1. John Wise RS-SC Militia (David Wyse, George Wyse, Alexander Wyse) was born about June 1721 in Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland, and was christened at the Arbuthnot Parish Church on 24 July 1721. He was the son of DAVID WYSE (???-???) and his wife ??? (name unknown), of Arbuthnott, Kincardineshire, Scotland. He died in Sep 1780, as an English Prisoner-of-War on the old English Prison Ship "Forbay" anchored in Charles Towne Harbor, English Province of South Carolina. He was last known to be living on Horse Creek, near Wise Mill, and "on the Charles Towne Road," in southeast Edgefield District, English Province of South Carolina. He married 1740 MARGARET TAIT (b. c1722) in Arbuthnott Parish Church, Kincardineshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of William Tait and his wife Margaret Colley, of Maryculter, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Margaret was also the paternal granddaughter of John Tait and Elizabeth Edward, probably also from Kincardineshire, Scotland. His wife Margaret died at their Horse Creek Plantation, Edgefield County, English Province of South Carolina. John, his wife, and his son William (there may have been a son named John Jr. too) migrated circa 1745-1750 from Scotland, probably to and through the English Province of North Carolina, and traveled overland into the Scot Pee Dee River Settlement area, then in Prince Fredrick's Parish [part now in Marion County], English Province of South Carolina.

We have recently had three major findings: (1) This JOHN WISE (1721-1780) and his son WILLIAM WISE (1744-1816) were, in fact, both born in Kincardineshire, Scotland; (2) that this JOHN WISE's father was DAVID WISE, probably also from Kincardineshire, Scotland; and (3) that JOHN WISE (1721-1780) was, in fact, arrested in 1780 by the English Army for aiding and comforting local rebels (South Carolina Militia soldiers) during the American Revolutionary War. A documented officer's record was found that confirms that JOHN WISE, RS-SC Militia was arrested, imprisoned, and died aboard an English prison ship in Charleston Harbor that same year. The name of the English Prison Ship in Charleston Harbor during this time frame has been identified as the "Forbay." Will provide more details as they become known.

Child of John Wise and Margaret Douglas is:

126 i. William Wise, born 29 Jan 1743/44 in Bogfon, Kincardineshire, Scotland; married Sarah Margaret Denmark 1778 in Orangeburgh District, English Province, SC.

255. Mary Moye, born 1745 in Beaufort, Pitt, North Carolina, USA; died 1793. She was the daughter of 510. John Moye.

Notes for William Batchelot Denmark:

William had two sons named James and William, one for each wife. James was probably named for their grandfather Moye.
